Rio Ferdinand was named in four consecutive England World Cup squads (1998, 2002, 2006, and 2010) but never featured in the European Championship.
He was left out of the Euro 2000 squad by manager Kevin Keegan.
He missed Euro 2004 after he was banned from football for eight months- from January until September 2004 for failing to take a drug test.
England failed to qualify for Euro 2008.
England manager Roy Hodgson dropped him from the squad for Euro 2012.
