Fabian Barthez

 



Fabian Barthez made 87 appearances for France, winning the world cup in 1998, the Euro in 2000 and the Confederations Cup in 2003. He also reached the final of the 2006 world cup


He is France's most capped player at the World Cup with 17 appearances and alongside England's Peter Shilton, holds the record for the most world cup clean sheets (10).


At club level, he played for Toulouse, Marseille, Monaco, Manchester United and Nantes, winning the UCL with Marseille in 1992/93, the Premier League with Manchester United in 2000/01 and 2002/03 and the Ligue 1 with Monaco in 1996-97 and 1999-00.

He won the FIFA Yashin Award in 1998 and made the World Cup All-star Team. He was named Ligue 1 Goalkeeper of the Year in 1998 and IFFHS World's Best Goalkeeper in 2000. He was also named in Euro 2000 Team of the Tournament.

Barthez retired from professional football in 2007 and began a career in motorsport the following year.
